How to Care for an Aglaonema

Aglaonema Care
With its lush, variegated leaves, the Aglaonema or Chinese Evergreen is one of the most easy-care plants for indoors. Native to subtropical forests in Asia, The Chinese Evergreen is an extremely forgiving plant, tolerating dry and low light conditions, but it will thrive and produce more colour in bright indirect light. This attractive houseplant makes a great addition to spruce up your home or office. Here’s how to care for your Aglaonema.
Aglaonema Care
Light While tolerant of low light, the Aglaonema will grow best with consistent, bright, filtered light—which produces the beautiful variegated leaves. Water When it comes to keeping plants alive and thriving, the biggest problem is overwatering. Before watering your plant, do a moisture check by dipping your finger into the soil. If the soil feels dry, then it’s time to water. Remove any excess water from the saucer as sitting in it may cause root rot and ruin your plant. Allow the top 3-5cm of soil to dry out before watering again. Temperature & Humidity Aglaonema prefers warm temperatures and high humidity. It should be given regular misting, especially during the winter if the humidity is exceptionally dry. Like all living, breathing things, fresh is best, so don’t put your plant under an air conditioner where gusts of hot or cold air can harm it. Maintenance Keep your Aglaonema looking lush and fresh by gently wiping the leaves down with a moist cloth, and remove any dead or yellowing leaves. Fertilise your plant during the growing season (spring and summer) with an all-purpose liquid fertiliser.
