Plant care tips for your Fiddle Leaf Fig
Originating from Western Africa, the Fiddle Leaf Fig thrives in warm, humid tropical rainforest conditions. This plant adapts well to indoor environments as long as its basic needs are taken care of. When kept indoors, however, the fiddle leaf does not produce any fruit or flowers. Indoor Fiddle Leaf Figs can reach heights of up to 3 m while this plant can grow as tall as 15 m outdoors.
Fiddle Leaf Figs need regular watering. Keep the potting soil evenly moist without overwatering the plant. Allow the top 2-3 cm of the soil to dry out between watering sessions. You should also regularly spray the leaves of the plant with fine water misting bottle. This will aid in increasing the humidity levels to mimic the plant’s native surroundings. Reduce the frequency of watering during the winter months.
Place your Fiddle Leaf Fig in a spot that receives bright indirect light. Regularly rotate the plant to allow all sides to soak up natural light. This plant thrives in room temperature conditions of around 16-25°C. Shelter the plant from drastic changes in temperature by keeping it away from heating or air conditioning vents and open windows where cold drafts may enter.
Use a well-draining potting mix. Monitor the growth of the plant and repot it once it becomes too big for its container. Large, mature Fiddle Leaf Figs do not need to be repotted as frequently. It is still a good idea to replace the top layer of the soil at least once a year to introduce new nutrients to the plant. If you want to fertilise your Fiddle Leaf Fig, only do so during its growing season in spring, summer, and parts of autumn.
Keep your plant looking fresh and healthy by using a damp cloth to gently wipe down the surface dust that may accumulate on its leaves. Keeping the leaves clean not only allows your plants to look their best but also helps the foliage to fully absorb light for optimal growth. The top of the Fiddle Leaf Fig can be pruned to keep the plant at the desired height. In addition to this, you should remove deteriorating leaves to keep the plant strong and healthy.
