However, you should keep in mind that this plant is toxic when consumed and should therefore be kept out of reach from pets and small children. The Flamingo Flower requires a bit more attention than most other indoor plants, but don’t fear if you are a novice gardener — we will arm you with all the instructions you need to take care of this stunning plant!
How to care for your Anthurium
Native to South America, the Anthurium Flamingo Flower thrives in indirect light conditions. When exposed to direct light, the leaves of this plant are likely to scorch and suffer permanent damage. If the Flamingo Flower does not receive enough indirect light, however, its growth will be negatively affected.

True to its tropical nature, the Flamingo Flower requires high humidity levels and frequent watering. Lightly mist its leaves with water to maintain the humidity. You could also use a humidifier to replicate its natural growing conditions. This plant needs to slightly dry out in between watering sessions. It is important to never let the roots sit in water, so use well-draining potting soil and a planting container with draining holes. The preferred option is to use rainwater or filtered water at room temperature.
If you want to fertilise your Flamingo Flower, use a slow-release fertiliser no more than once a month and only during summer and spring. During the colder months, tropical indoor plants slow down their growth and may even appear to be struggling a bit. Do not take this as a sign to increase watering or to over-fertilise the plant. It just needs some time to rest and will speed up its growth once the weather becomes warmer again!
Flamingo Flowers typically need to be repotted every 18-24 months. It is essential to allow the plant enough time to grow a mature root system before disrupting its routine. Spring is the best time of year to repot your indoor plants.
Remember to practice general maintenance by regularly cleaning the leaves of your Anthurium. Indoor plants tend to accumulate dust from their surroundings and cannot get rid of this layer of dust by themselves, unlike outdoor plants which are naturally cleaned by rain and dew. Use a damp cloth to wipe away any surface dust gently. Remove any discoloured or dying leaves and old blooms that may be inhibiting the growth of new blooms.
